Colocation provider AirTrunk has announced it plans to build a 110 megawatt (MW) data centre in Sydney.
Dubbed SYD2, the data centre is set to open in 2020 in the suburb of Lane Cove West, which AirTrunk said is “strategically located” in major cloud availability zones in the area.
Like SYD1, which opened in 2017, the facility will be supported by a dedicated 132kV substation to provide reliable power and lower electricity rates for customers.
AirTrunk also revealed it has acquired land adjacent to its SYD1 and MEL1 data centres in Sydney and Melbourne. The acquisitions will enable both campuses to add over 130 MW of capacity, for a potential 370 MW in total capacity across three campuses.
AirTrunk chief executive Robin Khuda said SYD2 and the planned expansions of its existing data centres are a result of strong customer demand.
“AirTrunk’s latest investment into its Australian data centres will bring significant benefits to the local economy and create hundreds of jobs during construction and throughout ongoing operations,” Khuda said.
