The Australian Computer Society has elected ICT lawyer Philip Argy as president for the next two years.

At the same time, Dr Catherine Jaktman and Kumar Parakala were elected as vice presidents.

Argy replaces Edward Mandla. Argy, who takes up the post next year, said in a statement he planned to focus on promoting professional standards and bolster the public perception of the IT industry.

“Professionalism is an important risk mitigation strategy and is critical to ensuring that Australia’s ICT sector is held in the highest regard by business, government and industry,” Argy said in a statement.

Argy is a senior partner with Mallesons Stephen Jaques, is an experienced programmer and specialises in intellectual property, science and technology law.
