Acer has announced a new zero-fault tolerance guarantee, which will replace any LCD screen or notebook containing faulty pixels.
Typically, LCD manufacturers will not replace a screen unless it has a pre-designated number of faulty pixels. Further confusion arises where different manufacturers have inconsistent definitions of what constitutes a pixel. A screen pixel is correctly identified as a collection of three sub-pixels consisting of red, green and blue coloured dots.
Furthermore, a sub-pixel could be faulty resulting in either an 'always on' state or 'always off'. Thus, where one manufacturer defines a faulty pixel as a complete dot-triad that won't light up, another will define it as a single sub-pixel that's always lit.
Acer's new PixelPerfect Guarantee applies to any fault in any sub-pixel, and will be replaced via Acer's 2-Hour Commitment Warranty Express. The warranty covers any notebook or screen purchased after 19 January and is effective for one year after purchase.
