Digital Realty's data centre in Erskine Park won the category for Communications Buildings (Data Centre) at the NSW MBA "Excellence in Construction Awards".
The award went to construction firm FDC Construction & Fitout, which managed the project for Digital Realty.
The high-profile Digital Realty data centre cost $32,450,000 and was built on a greenfield site "with unique mechanical and electrical services installation based on the client Digital Realty’s global design standard".
The centre features four data halls, electrical switch rooms, roof plant, office areas, loading dock and plant and equipment rooms
It was the third consecutive year that FDC Construction & Fitout took out the Communications Buildings category. FDC called it " technologically savvy and highly secure build"
The NSW Master Builders Association said: "Creative thinking by the project team to overcome the challenges of inclement weather, construction methodology and technical coordination of the client supplied equipment enabled construction to be expedited and commissioning and handover to be achieved ahead of the contract dates.
"The very young FDC project team are to be congratulated for having produced a very high quality product within a remarkable 11 months construction period."
According to Data Realty, the centre has "demonstrated five nines (99.999%) uptime since 2007". The site features 6MW of power and an N+1 free air cooling architecture, which the owner says "delivers an energy efficient environment to cost effectively support your most critical applications".
The project was designed using innovative REVIT software and featured an innovative free air cooling system.
Data Realty said the centre offers "comprehensive facility security with the capability to meet ASIO, PCI and relevant ISO security classifications"
