Samsung Australia today unveiled its two ‘hero’ products for 2011: the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy S II. We had a play around with both products at the official launch event. Read on to discover our verdict. (Pictured: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1)

After a brief presentatation about the products' new features, attendees were given a chance to try out both devices themselves. (Pictured: Samsung Galaxy S II)

Samsung Galaxy S II boasts a Dual-Core application processor, 4G (HSPA+ 21) connectivity, an 8-megapixel camera and a 4.27in Super AMOLED Plus display running on the Android 2.3 'Gingerbread' OS. Other highlights include Full HD video recording (1080p) and a 3-axis gyroscopic sensor suitable for gaming.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is surprisingly light for a smartphone of its calibre, weighing just 115g. The Samsung Galaxy S II boasts dimensions of 125x66x8.49mm. (This is significantly thinner than the original Galaxy S, which measured 9.9mm.)

Here's how the Samsung Galaxy S II stacks up against the latest Apple iPhone.

The release of the Samsung Galaxy S II coincides with four new content and entertainment hubs for Samsung smartphones: Game, Music, Social and Reader. These hubs provide quick access to music, games, e-reading and social networking services.

The Samsung Galaxy S II should be available through all Australian mobile phone carriers. It will be released some time in May or June (an exact date has yet to be confirmed).

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the company's first Android 3.0-based Dual Core smart media device. Highlights include a 10.in display, an 8-megapixel AF camera, a 1GHz Dual Core application processor and up to 32GB of inbuilt memory.

As its name implies, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 sports a 10.1in WXGA touch screen LCD. We didn't get a chance to test the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in direct sunlight, but the ultra-glossy display looked superb indoors. (Native resolution: 1280x800)

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 weighs in at 599g with dimensions of 246.2x170.4x10.9mm.

We were concerned that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 might be a bit too big for our liking, but the device felt comfortable in our hands. Its size remains acceptable for use on public transport and the like.

Despite being a pre-production model, we were quite impressed by the speed of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1's interface. Samsung claimed that the final version would be even faster.

In addition to its front-mounted 2.0-megapixel webcam, the Samsung Tab 10.1 comes equipped with an 8.0-megapixel auto-focusing camera with inbuilt LED Flash.

As this photo attests, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a bit of a fingerprint magnet. (Although the fingerfood served at the event was surely a contributing factor.)

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was announced in partnership with Vodafone Group. Pricing and release date have yet to be announced.
