Avnet blasts off!
Distributor Avnet last month used Sydney’s Luna Park as a backdrop to drum up some reseller support for Novell SuSE Linux and IBM open source solutions.
Avnet marketing director Michael Costigan got the attendees laughing, deciding to dress up as the ‘Space Man’ for the start of the conference titled ‘Blast off into the on-demand era’. Hmmm, don’t give up your day job yet Michael.
The distributor also took the opportunity to hand out some partner awards for FY 2005. The Partner of the Year gong went to Queensland reseller Computer Merchants, who took out this award for the third year running.
Australian ISV, Sydney-based IDS, won the ISV of the Year award for a software solution provided to the automotive and consumer goods industries.
The Software Business Partner of the Year award went to Synergy, and the last award, New Business Partner of the Year, was won by CSC Australia.
Prince too expensive for the Big M
Microsoft struck out not once but twice with the artist-formerly-and-once-again-known-as-Prince.
For its big partner event in the US last month -- in Minneapolis, Prince’s home town -- the company tried to persuade His Purpleness to perform at its closing party.
The price was too dear, so the B-52s played instead. Then it came out that Microsoft’s British subsidiary was all set to host its partners and media at a party in Prince’s Paisley Park studio.
All systems were apparently Go until word came back from Prince’s people that no meat could be served. What?! A new venue was found. Mad cow or no mad cow, those Brits want their protein.
