JANUARY
Dimension Data scores $10m Qld software deal
Campbell Newman's Queensland government will utilise the software asset management services of IT solutions behemoth Dimension Data after awarding the company a $9.7 million standing offer arrangement. The state’s agency responsible for IT – the Department of Science, IT, Innovation and the Arts (DSITIA) – first signalled a shift towards centralised software asset management last August, in an effort to cut costs related to unused licenses.

Dicker Data acquires Express Data
Dicker Data has announced the acquisition of the Dimension Data-owned Express Data, in a sign of major consolidation in IT distribution. The purchase price has not been disclosed. It covers all of Express Data's Australian and New Zealand assets, along with its 350 staff.

As part of the company's continued emphasis on the cloud, Dimension Data Monday rolled out a new Compute-as-a-Service Private Network Connection (CPNC) to bolster its portfolio for enterprise-class public, private and managed hosting cloud offerings.

DiData to push Microsoft cloud in Australia
Dimension Data has launched a private cloud service supporting the Microsoft Cloud Platform and announced its plans to quadruple its data centre business in the next five years. The new product, "Private Cloud with Hyper-V", allows clients to develop and host Microsoft applications in a dedicated cloud.

Dimension Data clinches major Cisco partnership
Cisco Tuesday shed new light on its emerging InterCloud strategy, revealing systems integration giant Dimension Data as its first global InterCloud hosting partner. The partnership, which was unveiled at the 2014 Cisco Live event this week in San Francisco, will involve Dimension Data hosting Cisco-branded Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings, which Cisco will then bring to market through its own reseller channel.

JUNE
DiData and UXC win $8.2m in NSW Transport work
Dimension Data and UXC Connect have landed separate contracts together totalling $8.2 million with Transport for NSW, as money flows from the state government's data centre reform project. The two integrators will deliver networking equipment in preparation for the movement of Transport for NSW's IT infrastructure under the state-wide data centre reform. The contracts are worth $4.4 million to DiData and $3.8 million to UXC Connect.

DiData hires former federal policeman for major role
Dimension Data has snagged former high profile Australian Federal Police agent Alastair MacGibbon to head up its security division in Australia. MacGibbon steps into the new role of security business unit general manager for Dimension Data Australia. He spent 15 years in the police force and was the founding director of the Australian High Tech Crime Centre, according to a statement from Dimension Data.

Dimension Data to buy Oakton for $171m
Dimension Data Australia could purchase Oakton Limited in a transaction valued at approximately $171 million under a scheme implementation deed announced today. DiData Australia has entered into a scheme with Oakton where it is proposed the integration giant will purchase all of Oakton's 90 million shares for $1.90 per share - which values Oakton at approximately $171 million.

SEPTEMBER
NEC to oust DiData from mega state govt contract
NEC looks set to oust Dimension Data from a South Australian government account worth tens of millions of dollars, CRN has learned. DiData has held the whole-of-government contract for more than eight years, having first secured the work in early 2006. The contract is due to expire on 30 September 2014.

DiData picks Australia for world mobility debut
Dimension Data has picked Australia for the world debut of its enterprise mobility-as-a-service offering. DiData chose Australia as the first country because the service was developed in Sydney; general manager end-user computing Brian Walshe cited our high take-up of mobile broadband.

Malcolm Turnbull launches Dimension Data ACT data centre
Federal minister for communications Malcolm Turnbull this morning announced a new Dimension Data facility in Canberra purpose-built for federal government clients. Canberra Data Centres is constructing the co-location facility in Fyshwick. The data centre, which will be DiData's 14th Managed Cloud Platform (MCP) facility, will go live from early 2015. The value of the Canberra investment was not disclosed.

DECEMBER
DiData Australia merges business units and adds top-level talent
Dimension Data Australia has merged two business units and made two executive-level appointments. The Communications and Customer Interactive Solutions groups have now merged, with Michael Slip promoted to become the general manager of the restructured Communications unit.
