Dimension Data and UXC Connect have landed separate contracts together totalling $8.2 million with Transport for NSW, as money flows from the state government's data centre reform project.
The two integrators will deliver networking equipment in preparation for the movement of Transport for NSW's IT infrastructure under the state-wide data centre reform. The contracts are worth $4.4 million to DiData and $3.8 million to UXC Connect.
The NSW government ICT strategy includes the goal of progressively moving 130 government data centres to two facilities in Silverwater and Unanderra, including the Transport for NSW infrastructure.
This "data centre as a service" will provide agencies with a shared pool of ICT infrastructure, according to the NSW Government ICT Strategy.
Transport for NSW is establishing a central ICT services capability to service all transport agencies, a department spokesperson told CRN.
While Dimension Data and UXC Connect are installing the initial networking equipment into the government-owned data centres, they have not been contracted to move the actual equipment.
The new infrastructure will replace "agency based" infrastructure from a variety of suppliers.
UXC Connect also has a managed network services contract to provide design and implementation services for Transport for NSW, said UXC Connect CEO Ian Poole.
Dimension Data already supplies a number of services to Transport for NSW, including Microsoft products, according to a Transport for NSW spokesperson.
