A coalition of retailers has revealed plans to form an official company to spearhead their campaign for a tax review they say would help them compete with online shops.
The Retail Coalition - which includes retail giants Gerry Harvey, David Jones and Borders - was preparing to incorporate its activities with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission to form an official organisation, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported.
The group planned to form an independent company with a constitution, board of directors, company secretary, employees and a chief executive.
The move would formalise the coalition and become the foundation to ramp up the lobbying campaign, the report said.
The retail giants launched a campaign earlier this month urging the government to create a level field for complaining that foreign e-tailers enjoyed GST-free sales on goods and services sold for less than $1000.
