IT service provider ComputerCorp has officially changed the trading name of its operations to 'Synergy Plus' to promote its national focus and transition into managed services.
ASX-listed ComputerCorp, which began its operations in Western Australia, acquired the Synergy Plus business in April.
Chairman Domenic Martino said there was several factors behind the name change.
"One, Synergy Plus has a long and successful history," he said. "Two, the Synergy Plus name reflect an upscale in the market from where our business has traditionally been. The type of work Synergy was doing - high-end IBM [re-sale] and services - is where we want to go."
Martino said the company is seeking "more balance between the provision of hardware and the provision of services.
"This is a strong message of change. We are no longer the late eighties box dropper, we are something different."
Third, he said, the name reflects the company's strengths on the East Coast as well as West Coast. "We are becoming a national firm and driving to get the levels of business on the East Coast that we enjoy on the West."
That said, he said that the resources sector is booming and subsequently the WA market is "hot".
Martino said the company is re-designing its management and expertise around a managed services push.
"Mid-tier companies and many corporations, led by the resource sector, are looking for an outsourced IT partner - but not necessarily of the size that would serve the Commonwealth Bank," he said.
The differentiating factor for Synergy Plus, he said, would be that such outsourcing arrangements come hand in hand with "the guaranteed best price on hardware".
"If we are your outsourced partner, you also know you'll be getting the best price."
The company will next seek shareholder approval to change the name of its ASX listed parent company to Synergy Plus on November 26.
Reconfirms interest in Leading Solutions
Martino said he is still interested in acquiring part of the beleaguered Leading Solutions business, which entered administration last week.
"We are very particular when looking at acquisitions, we want to make sure they fit right," he said. "Leading Solutions offers some great opportunities - Frank built a great business, despite some of its problems. Parts of it are very interesting to us."
Martino said a confidentiality agreement prevented him from discussing the company's aborted acquisition of S Central, the assets of which have been acquired by Brennan IT.
