Yahoo! names new CEO

Yahoo! has appointed Google executive Marissa Mayer as its new boss after its former CEO was forced to resign amidst a resume forging scandal.

Mayer leaves her post as Google’s vice president of Local, Maps and Location Services, and a thirteen year career at the search giant.

She was the first female engineer to be hired by the company.

Mayer will start her new role on Tuesday.

Google acting CEO and head of global media Ross Levinsohn was widely tipped to take up the role permanently.

He had been leading the company since former and embattled CEO Scott Thompson in May resigned after it was revealed his resume contained ‘inaccuracies’.
