Newsagents and lighting stores were among the 36 Dick Smith resellers recently told by the electronics giant they will soon have to hang up their soldering irons.
The iconic Australian company will continue to operate its 100 corporate shops but others will no longer be able to use the Dick Smith brand name, said spokesman Luke Schepen,.
"Dick Smith went through a review of its business and found the reseller business wasn't in line with the company," Schepen said.
"We will be exiting the reseller business and no Dick Smith employees will be affected.
"All contracts will be honoured, with some not ending for another year and others coming up in 2011."
Schepen said resellers would be eligible for corporate accounts to buy products.
