Microsoft has taken aim at the anti-touchscreen brigade with a new keyboard peripheral that has been specifically designed for the Windows 8 OS.
The Sculpt Comfort Keyboard is a Windows 8-enabled wireless keyboard that boasts an ergonomic key layout and a detachable padded palm rest "to encourage a more natural positioning of your body."
The keyboard's main claim to fame is its thicker 'split' spacebar which provides an optional backspace function to assist in typing efficiency and speed.
According to Microsoft, the unique spacebar design was the result of internal research that showed 90 percent of typists tend to favour the right side of the spacebar and rarely press down on the left-hand side.
The left spacebar can now be used as an alternative backspace which is the third most pressed key on the keyboard, according to Microsoft.
"Constantly striking backspace breaks a person’s typing stride because of its location on the top right-hand corner of the keyboard," Microsoft explained in a statement.
The Sculpt Comfort Keyboard also comes with a handful of 'quick access' hot keys which automatically launch the most commonly used features in Windows 8, including Search, Share, Device and Settings.
The Sculpt Comfort Keyboard will be available "soon" for an estimated retail price of US$59.95 (AU$57.46).
