WA Police migrates website to Azure

Microsoft partner Ignia has landed a $1.6 million deal to revamp and manage the West Australian Police’s website and CMS system.

WAPOL's entire website and CMS have been migrated across Microsoft’s Azure’s Sydney and Melbourne data centres. Built on Sitecore, the CMS has been redesigned for enterprise scalability and integration with backend systems to leverage public data.

Prior to the migration, WAPOL’s CMS system was managed on-premises, and its 15 websites on open-source platforms such as WordPress and Dot Net Nuke.

WAPOL went to tender for the new system in May 2014 with intent to procure another on-premises solution. Some 10 months later, WAPOL revealed plans to rebuild its IT infrastructure by outsourcing more of its processes to the cloud.

According to Ignia director Joshua Boys, the Perth company was picked for the project off the back of previous work implementing Microsoft Sharepoint and trialling Office 365 for WAPOL.

Ignia also provides cloud services to the Western Australian government’s health and housing departments, with 60 percent of its revenue coming from state government contracts.

Last year, Ignia was named enterprise partner of the year by Microsoft at the Australian partner awards. It also came in at No.22 in the 2014 CRN Fast50.

In May, the WA State government announced plans to cut IT spending by $110 million, with WAPOL looking for $25.4 million over a four-year period.
