VMware has hired IBM veteran Duncan Hewett as its senior vice president and general manager for Asia-Pacific and Japan.
Hewett began his career with IBM 29 years ago. He was most recently vice president of IBM Software's Asia-Pacific business for over two years, where he led a team of 1,800 staff working across sales, acquisition integration, subscription and support, software support and software services.
He has also worked as director of enterprise sales and compliance and vice president of sales and operations in growth markets.
Hewett replaces VMware's former senior vice president and general manager Sanjay Mirchandani, who left in April to become president of Puppet in the US.
Commenting on his new role, Hewitt said it was delighted to take on the challenge of growing VMware's business in the region.
“Our top priority will be to help our customers accelerate enterprise digital transformation. We are well positioned in the region, and I am looking forward to leading the team to new heights in a region now regarded as one of VMware’s growth engines,” said Hewett.
VMware has hired a number of new faces this year already. Former EMC general manager Alister Dias was appointed as managing director of VMware Australia in January to replace the outgoing Duncan Bennet.
The next month, Kerrie-Anne Turner was appointed as VMware's new channel manager to fill the vacancy left after John Donovan's departure.
Hewett starts his new role on 9 August.
