Verizon secures Liverpool Council with MessageLabs

Verizon business has been chosen by Liverpool Council, situated in Sydney’s south-west suburbs, to install MessageLabs’ entire suite of ‘Anti-Spam’ and ‘Anti-Virus’ service products.

The implementation is to help the Council improve productivity across the organisation and will be installed to 500 email users.

Troy Green, manager of IT at Liverpool City Council, said with more than 70,000 ratepayers requiring proper amenities, public works and services such as child care, libraries and sporting centres, there was a heavy demand placed on the communications systems.

“Our wide geographical area also makes e-communication vital, as our staff members are spread out across several buildings and needs to service an area that covers 300 square kilometres,” he said.

For the Council, MessageLabs’ service “is the moat around the castle, the fence around the house that stops the majority of our problems”, said Green.

Prior to commencing the MessageLabs service, the council was experiencing 47 percent of incoming email as spam and was utilising commercial AV products for its desktop and server protection.

These products have been retained to protect against viruses that may enter the network from outside the email system, such as an employee bringing an infected disk or device to work, said Green.
