Matthew Oostveen is the new Asia Pacific CTO for VCE, having previously been the director of research for IDC Australia.
Oostveen has been charged with driving business competitiveness and market share growth in the region and helping to broaden the VCE technical capabilities.
VCE is a partnership of Cisco and EMC, with investments from VMware and Intel, to build converged cloud infrastructure systems, in particular the Vblock data centre solution.
Oostveen spent six years at IDC where he oversaw all research divisions including services, software, telecommunications, infrastructure and verticals. In that time, he published more than 50 research papers on these topics.
He also brings an IT vendor pedigree, having managed competitive strategy at Microsoft and looked after Linux sales at IBM.
VCE vice president of APJ, Paul Harapin, said: "As our chief steward of innovation in the region, Matthew will ensure that our technology strategy matches our business strategy."
He praised Oostveen's knowledge of regional differences as well as his technical expertise in cloud computing and IT infrastructure. These, he said, "make him a natural choice for VCE in its efforts to be the leader in product transformation in the region".
