Unisys renews $74 million Defence contract

Unisys has signed a two-year contract extension with the Department of Defence to provide support for 100,000 users at 450 locations.

The extension has been valued at $74 million and will run until October 2018.

Unisys, which has held the Defence contract since 2008, provides IT support to all sections within the department.

The company provides support for joint service and international military exercises such as Talisman Sabre, an operation that Australia and the US conduct every two years.

Unisys also provides emergency disaster responses for floods and bushfires.

According to Unisys, it has standardised Defence IT support services across Australia during the eight years it has held the contract.

Unisys’ offer includes a flexible workforce model based on man-hour capacity and prioritised services.

This is designed to give Defence price predictability, control over where workforce efforts are focused and transparent reporting about how the workforce has been used.

Unisys Asia-Pacific public sector lead Lysandra Schmutter said the company works to ensure that base operations are executed efficiently.

“Our renewal with the Department of Defence is a testament to the value we collectively have brought to provide a high quality of services and insights to support the critical operations across their bases nationwide,” she said.

Other Unisys clients include the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, Australian National Audit Office and Education Queensland.

Unisys offers cloud and infrastructure services, application services, security solutions and high-end server technology, and has more than 20,000 staff around the world.
