UK vendor targets Australian MSPs through South African distie with NZ support

UK data management software vendor Redstor has chosen a novel way to address the Australian market – by using the new local wing of a South African company and support from New Zealand.

This story starts in the year 2015 when Redstor, then mostly a service provider specialising in data management, acquired South African cloud-delivered data management software company Attix 5. Redstor says that transaction “transformed” it “into an international software and service business”.

But the transformation didn’t reach Australia, where despite Attix5 once having a presence the new combined company has been invisible.

In South Africa, however, Redstor built a channel for its wares that included a company called B-Sure IT Solutions. B-Sure resells Redstor’s products and services in South Africa and quietly started doing the same in Australia earlier this year.

The company’s Australian sales director Auret van Zyl told CRN Australia that he plans to sell exclusively to managed service providers and believes that Redstor’s wares can match other data management products on features and beat them on price.

Van Zyl thinks he can compete with the likes of Veeam, Datto and StorageCraft. It’s already struck up a relationship with Servers Australia to host data, or end-users can opt to use on-premises storage. The company is also in talks with Macquarie Telecom for colocation and as Redstor works with Equinix in the UK van Zyl may well explore that option.

B-Sure’s plans call for staff to work from all Australian capital cities during 2019 and for support to be handled from South Africa and New Zealand. The latter nation will soon be home for a senior Redstor support officer, making it a good base for both support and B-Sure’s planned foray into the NZ market.
