Tuned Global scales music platform with AWS and SourceFuse

Music technology company Tuned Global has modernised its cloud infrastructure with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and AI-native engineering and cloud solutions provider SourceFuse, rebuilding the data architecture underpinning its global Music Cloud Platform ahead of anticipated growth.

The project migrated Tuned Global's core database layer from Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and modernised its extract, transform and load architecture using AWS Glue and Amazon EventBridge.

The modernisation has increased daily music catalogue ingestion capacity from two million to 20 million tracks, reduced major customer onboarding timelines by approximately 90%, delivered three to five times faster database query performance and lowered infrastructure costs by 33%.

The platform can now scale from one million to 10 million API requests per minute while maintaining sub-200 millisecond delivery standards.

Tuned Global provides the technology infrastructure businesses need to build licensed music experiences - covering catalogue management, rights management, content delivery and streaming - without building that stack themselves.

Its platform currently handles approximately 200 million tracks alongside podcasts, audiobooks and video, and serves customers across the US, UK, Europe, Asia Pacific and parts of Africa.

Yahya Bilal, CTO at Tuned Global, said the company chose to act before existing systems reached their limits.

New customers were arriving with catalogues of between 30 million and 60 million tracks requiring ingestion, metadata enrichment and delivery across more than 500 APIs.

"With native AI-based solutions, you're redesigning everything from scratch. And that's how we started thinking. We thought about being cloud-native for AI - what does that look like? What do we need to change? What do we need to modernise? What are the partners out there that can help us with that?”

Beyond the performance gains, Bilal said the rearchitected platform is foundational to the company's AI ambitions.

Amazon Aurora Serverless enables capacity to scale automatically with demand, while AWS Glue-based distributed processing allows multiple catalogue ingestion jobs to run concurrently.

Human intervention across ingestion and scaling workflows has been cut by approximately 25%.

"Instead of having engineers adjusting compute during ingestion peaks, we now rely on infrastructure that scales automatically," Bilal said.
