Toshiba Client Solutions Australia has voluntarily recalled the 2-pin power adapters sold with some of its notebooks due to the risk of overheating and fire.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said that the DC-IN plug component of the AC adapter could overheat when the material inside deteriorates over time, posing a fire hazard for anyone using it.
The adapters were bundled with Toshiba notebooks between July 2011 and October 2015 and were mostly sold to corporate customers and distributions, not through retail stores. They were also given to some customers during repairs.
The ACCC recommends customers turn off their PC at the wall and unplug the adapter immediately. Customers can go to Toshiba's support website to help determine whether their adapter is affected, and register for a free return and replacement.
The numbers on the affected adapters are G71C0009S210, G71C0009T110, G71C0009T116 and G71C0009T210.
Toshiba noted that 3-pin AC adapters were not subject to the recall, and should continue operating as normal.
A handful of vendors have been forced to recall power adapters this year due to fire hazard risks, including Netgear, Cellnet, and Comsol. Some vendors have also had to recall their laptops due to overheating risks with their batteries, such as Apple, Lenovo, HP and Panasonic.
