Distributor TodayTech in conjunction with one of its dealers, is supplying its D400S laptop computers to first-grade players and coaching staff at the Manly Sea Eagles rugby league team.
Through the dealer -- which declined to be named -- TodayTech is delivering up to 50 laptops to the Sea Eagles.
Michael Chong, executive director at TodayTech, said the notebooks would be used to provide a 'greater level of communication and better analysis between the players and coaching staff.'
'Players will have ready access to performance details, statistics and training schedules. They will be able to download the game and analyse each play and move,' Chong said.
A recent report in “The Daily Telegraph” said that all 32 players had outlaid $2,000 to buy the TodayTech laptops, and were told to log-on at least once a day as part of the club's new 'professional approach.'
The laptops ship with Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron processors, 15 inch screens, integrated graphics chipsets, integrated camera and a maximum 1GB of DDR memory.
Chong said since the release of Intel's Centrino technology, white-box notebook sales had picked up significantly. 'At first, customers were a bit sceptical about the performance and reliability, but we have proven that our white-box range more than exceeds both expectations and in turn have recognised [its] potential and tapped into market that were previously beyond their grasp.'
The distribution is also running a white-box, barebones campaign which would provide resellers with 'building blocks' to put together their own solutions, he said. The distributor is selling in excess of 1,000 laptops per month, mostly to system integrators that are assembling and rebadging the products.
