Notices recalling both Thomson Telecom’s Telstra V900 Twin Cordless Telephone charger and PowerWave’s Power Adaptor for the PSP have been issued to the press, with Thomson stating that “a plastics integrity issue during the manufacturing process has affected a particular batch of these power adaptors,” and PowerWave saying that its chargers “may have electrical faults.”
Both companies declined to comment when contacted by iTnews.
According to Thomson’s press statement, the fault may cause the casing to separate and potentially expose the internal circuitry.
“In the interests of good service and Thomson Telecom’s reputation for excellence, we want to ensure Telstra V900 Twin Cordless Telephone customers exchange their adaptors if they are broken or damaged,” said the company, urging consumers who own the adaptor to turn off the power outlet without touching the unit, unplug the power adaptor and visually examine it.
“In the event it shows any sign of cracking or damage, discontinue use, and enter your details into the following website www.thomsontelecom.com.au/recall.html Thomson will arrange a replacement adaptor to be sent to you within 7 days, and carefully dispose of the power adaptor,” the notice said.
The potentially-faulty PowerWave Power Adaptor was available at retail store, Electronics Boutique (EB) Games from 15 January 2007. The company is using customers to immediately cease using the unit and return it to any EB Games store for a full refund.
It is not clear if faults were reported to the companies by affected consumers or if the faults were uncovered during routine product testing.
