Telstra reveals govt cloud launch for 2015

Telstra has revealed plans for a government-only cloud environment to launch in the first half of 2015.

The telco sent out the announcement on the same morning that Dimension Data was revealing a new data centre being built exclusively for government clients, which will open early next year.

Telstra revealed few details other than a statement describing the planned government cloud launch as a “key milestone” in the carrier’s long-term cloud strategy.

The Telstra service will be built specifically for federal, state and local government. The service will be designed for both unclassified and protected-level data.

Telstra has previously boasted various high-profile government customers, from the Department of Defence, Department of Human Services and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. Telstra has also previously invested in the Federal Government Managed Secure Network Gateway.

The carrier operates “secure desk operations” manned by a dedicated team, as well as a Government Accredited Secure Facility to provide network security.

CRN has contacted Telstra for more information.
