Telstra gets first dibs on Samsung Galaxy S7

Telstra will be the first to market in Australia with Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones on 11 March.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were revealed at the Mobile World Conference this week, along with the availability of Samsung Pay in Australia this year.

The new handsets are fitted with a 5.1-inch screen for the S7 and a 5.5-inch curved screen for the S7 Edge.

The device is powered with a Samsung Exynos 8 octacore 8890 processor and 4GB of RAM. They come with a 12MP camera, which is slightly pared-down compared to the 16MP on the Galaxy S6.

Some of the new features include a waterproof design that can last for up to 30 minutes, expandable microSD and SIM card tray for up to 200GB of extra storage and a larger 3000mAh batter for the S7 and 3600mAh for the S7 Edge.

Telstra is also offering customers a free Samsung Gear VR headset for customers that pre-order an S7 or S7 Edge when they become available to order on 26 February.

Telstra is yet to announce its own pricing, but Samsung has announced that the S7 and S7 will retail from $1149 and $1249 respectively. The smartphones will also be available from the vendor's online store.
