An issue affecting Telstra’s online help service for enterprise and small business customers has exposed a set of personal details to customers on the site.
Online service Your Telstra Tools was disabled late last week following the discovery by the telco’s internal security team that emails sent to 18 customers had been made available to three customers that performed a specific search on the site, according to Telstra
Telstra has attributed the exposure to an error with the service’s search function.
“We regularly communicate with our customers about our planned network interruptions, including emailing them in advance,” Telstra head of sales and service Michael Ackland wrote in a blog post on Friday.
“The information in the emails is similar to what you would find on a business card or website, such as names, business names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.
“We have begun contacting and apologising to the small number of affected customers.”
The service shutdown follows Telstra suspending employee recruitment in early June following a malware infection at their recruitment portal provider PageUp People, amid concerns job applicants’ personal information was compromised.
Recruitment functions have since resumed.
