Web server software vendor NGINX has hired AWS veteran Anthony Leverington to lead its Asia-Pacific expansion in Australia and New Zealand.

NGINX offers open source technologies for developing and delivering applications, helping businesses in modernising legacy applications and bringing in microservices-based ones.

Leverington was brought on as country manager for NGINX’s Australian and New Zealand business, tasked with building partnerships and growing the business in the region.

“With digital platforms becoming a mission-critical channel for interacting with customers, it is imperative for businesses across ANZ to deliver extraordinary real-time, agile, cross-device customer experiences,” Leverington said.

“I am thrilled to join NGINX in its journey to help ANZ businesses seize opportunities in the digital era and address new-generation consumers’ needs through improved control, deployment speed, and developer agility.”

NGINX received an $8 million investment from Telstra’s venture capital arm Telstra Ventures in 2016, and has been working with the telco to speed up the enterprise adoption of its application delivery products.

“Along with Southeast Asia and Japan, ANZ is a critical APAC market that presents a lucrative growth opportunity for NGINX. The appointment of Anthony, who has an excellent track record in the enterprise technology space, reinforces our strategy to build our presence in Australia and New Zealand,” NGINX head of Asia-Pacific Norbert Kiss said.

“NGINX already enjoys huge adoption in most of Australia’s leading companies through its open source initiatives, and we are excited to have him on board with us as we grow our business in the region.”

Prior to joining NGINX, Leverington held various sales roles with AWS, VMWare and Cloud Talent Group, and technical roles with Optus, IAG, ANZ bank, National Australia Bank and Telstra.
