Telstra adds Ikea, 7-Eleven to its cloud

Telstra is migrating SAP environments for the Asian operations of leading retail brands including Ikea and 7-Eleven to its cloud.

The telco clinched the deal with Dairy Farm, the US$12 billion-turnover group that holds the licences for Ikea and 7-Eleven businesses in Asia.

Dairy Farm has more than 5,800 outlets and franchises across Asia – but not Australia – as well as supermarkets, health and beauty stores and home furnishings stores. The company employs 100,000 people.

The migration began in November 2014 and is set to complete in April 2015. It is a managed private cloud contract, with Telstra overseeing storage, physical security, maintenance and connectivity for Dairy Farm's SAP suite.

Dairy Farm is also exploring unified communications as a service, network and retail media solutions within the next two years, according to Telstra.

Dairy Farm Group chief information officer Gerhard Roux said: “We undertook a very detailed selection process and chose Telstra as our successful cloud infrastructure partner due to their flexibility, ability to scale and willingness to adjust and refine the proposal in line with our needs."
