Tegatech launches v2 tablet to compete with iPad

Tegatech Australia has launched its second generation Tega tablet, dubbed the v2, and called upon global resellers to partner with the tablet PC supplier and manufacturer for its distribution.

The company said the device was stocked by existing Tegatech resellers including Ingram Micro NZ, but no further partners were named. Resellers could register their interest via the company's website.

"Our commitment to mobile computing is what has brought [us] to release the Tega v2 to market and go straight for a global launch," Hugo Ortega, principal at Tegatech, said.

"We're excited about the TEGA v2 and believe it to be an exceptional product, with an amazing set of features and it will be just the device to compete against the Apple iPad, Dell Streak and Samsung Galaxy Tab.

The Australian price for the device was launched at $899 for the base model, which included an Intel Atom N455 1.66Ghz, 2GB DDR3 RAM and dual boot in Windows 7 and Android 1.6. US pricing was $US799 and European pricing was €649.

In comparison, the iPad base model comes in cheaper at $629, but Tegatech claimed the Tega v2 had more features and a bigger screen.

Meanwhile, Samsung has high hopes for its $999 Galaxy Tab running the Android operating system with a smaller 7 inch screen.

Tegatech created global hype around the device through daily updates on Facebook.  It featured on Channel Nine's Mornings with Kerri Anne recently in a lineup with the Apple iPadSamsung Galaxy Tab, and the Dell Streak and also appeared in gadget publications such as engadget and Pocket-lint

The launch date was pushed back from October 12 due to Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 launch, which was scheduled for the same day.

Tega v2 was Tegatech's second branded tablet following the Tega v1.
