Australian distributor Tegatech has announced it will release a second version of its Tega tablet. The Tega v2 will dual boot in Windows 7 and Android 1.6, said Hugo Ortega, principal at Tegatech.
The tablet will feature an Intel Atom N455 processor, DDR3 RAM, and a 10" X86 multi- touch screen - 2mm thicker than the iPad. Other items of note include two USB ports, micro SD card slot and front camera, Bluetooth and WiFi, and 3G as an optional extra.
The yet-to-be-launched Tega v2 tablet featured on Channel Nine's Mornings with Kerri Anne on Monday in a lineup with the Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and the Dell Streak.
In a segment on tablets, The Daily Telegraph's Stephen Fenech described the Tega v2 as a tablet for those "serious people who need a computer with a lot of grunt".Tegatech's TEGA v2's October 15 global launch date has also appeared in gadget publications such as engadget and Pocket-lint. The launch date was pushed back from October 12 due to Microsoft's pending Windows Phone 7 launch which had been scheduled for the same day.
Tega v2 was Tegatech's second branded tablet following the Tega v1, which was "honestly not the right device to be passionate about", Ortega said.
"One thing that always concerned me about the v1 was the quality control coming out of China so we took a different strategy with the Tega v2 and have had it assembled in South Korea.
"We feel the fact that the Tega v2 is assembled in Korea is a distinguishing feature from the flood of tablets hitting the market," he said.
Pricing for Australia, US and Europe and reseller/retailer partners will be announced on October 15.
Ortega told CRN that he wanted to partner with a telecommunications provider but had not finalised one.
"As many of you have noticed there is no pricing just yet. This is not a mistake but out of respect for our yet to be announced channel partners I'll be sure to announce all those details on the 15th," he said.
