Synnex nabs exclusive Altech vendor

Synnex has scored an Australian distribution partnership with global PC component and peripheral vendor Corsair, a role held exclusively for 15 years by Altech.

Both companies are now distributing Corsair in Australia, with Synnex granted rights to the full range of Corsair products, which include memory, power supplies, cases, CPU cooling, gaming headsets, keyboards and mice.

Corsair wanted to broaden its geographical reach in the Australian market, said Bertrand Chevalier, senior vice president of worldwide sales.

“We need to extend our reach into Australia. We need multiple sources for customers to buy Corsair. We need to make sure there are always products in the market,” he told CRN.

“Altech probably covers everybody in Sydney, but in other states Synnex can bring us coverage,” he said. “Synnex is going to bring a variety of resellers we’re not necessarily reaching through Altech.”

Altech managing director Antony Sheen said the distributor had been working exclusively with Corsair for approximately 15 years.

“Corsair has a great range of quality products and we hope that [the] appointment of Synnex will make this brand even stronger and not distort too much the market prices,” he told CRN.

“Adding one more distributor will definitely affect street price, but at the same time will improve the availability and variety of the products,” he said.

Synnex Australia's product director Yu-Chen Liao described Corsair's approach towards the PC gaming market as "innovative".

“Corsair offers a strong compliment to Synnex, with products matching the demand from  our 7,000+ reseller partners," Yu-Chen Liao said.

Synnex has been busy this year, striking a partnership with Linksys that was announced in May. In March Huawei Australia began a partnership with Synnex and iCITA after ending its partnership with DNA Connect. Also in March Synnex expanded its Apple partnership from distribution of iPads to include the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, iMac with Retina 5K display, Mac Pro and Mac Mini.
