Sybase recognised for its mobile enterprise expertise
Speaking after Sybase was entered into Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms, 2008, Maroney said the evaluation is testament to its position within the marketplace to provide value to enterprises that want to mobilise key business applications and processes.

"Business applications and processes are increasingly going mobile,” he said.

“Together with the growing complexity and diversity of devices, this exerts pressure on organisations to control and manage resources, budget and service level to the business users of enterprise mobility.

“Ownership and support are where the channel can add real value as businesses are looking for a single point of contact.

“By partnering with Sybase, resellers can benefit from our strong local market presence and our product line's superior synchronisation capabilities, interoperability, and security," he added.

According to Gartner, it has renamed the multi-channel access gateway market to the Mobile Enterprise Application Platform market, reflecting its maturation, Apple's entry, and the move of mobile tools and platforms to the application development mainstream.

It claims more stringent requirements have also narrowed the number of vendors.

Gartner provides the “Rule of Three,” which states that ‘multichannel gateway approaches offer significant advantages in three situations: (when there are three or more applications, when there are three or more targeted OSs or platforms, and when they involve the integration of three or more back-end systems’.

“As a developer of mobile workforce applications centred on workflow and business processes, we needed a versatile and reliable synchronisation component,” said Stefan Christen, global project manager, Swiss1mobile.

“While evaluating vendor partnerships, Sybase was the clear choice because of their mobile enterprise expertise, strong product line, and market leadership,” he added.

“Our primary focus at MobileDataforce is to provide mobile applications that bridge the gap between the office and the field, so we require a partner capable of serving as the synchronisation foundation of our platform PointSync,” said Mike Freeman, CEO, MobileDataforce.

“After evaluating all the leading database and mobile middleware solutions, Sybase clearly stood out in terms of synchronisation capabilities, interoperability, and security.”

“From our perspective, Gartner’s evaluation is a testament to our unwavering commitment to our Unwired Enterprise vision and our unique position within the marketplace to deliver upon it,” said Maroney.

“As one of the first mobile enterprise software providers, Sybase has witnessed increasing demand in the number of enterprises that want to take advantage of the power of information anywhere, on any device,” he added.
