Swift Networks lands content services deal for 10 oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico

Telco Swift Networks has scored a deal to provide content services to 1000 rooms across 10 oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.

The five-year deal was done with internet protocol television (IPTV) platform provider Tripleplay Services, whose existing infrastructure on the oil rigs will deliver the content from Swift.

“We are pleased to see Swift’s partner and reseller strategy delivering results ahead of expectations as we continue to execute our international growth strategy through the deployment of Swift’s premium content services, available to Swift clients and partners regardless of their geographic location,” Swift chief executive Xavier Kris said.

A spokesperson for Swift said the deal would be its first major one in the Americas, and would potentially lead to further deals as the company expanded its reach in that region.

Tripleplay provides IPTV and digital signage solutions to clients that include maritime, hospitals, hotels, military, enterprise, sports stadiums and universities around the world.

“Tripleplay is delighted to expand our relationship with Swift beyond hospitality deployments in the Australian market and into a global relationship for the benefit of Tripleplay clients internationally and we look forward to working with Swift on many more projects of this nature,” Tripleplay chief executive Steve Rickless said.

In November, Swift Networks landed similar multi-year contracts with a number of mining camps in Western Australia, providing telecommunications services and entertainment content to about 825 end users.
