Swann Communications, a security monitoring and video surveillance provider, has launched RedAlert Security Kit, which bundles a wireless CCTV camera with a motion detection recording solution to create an affordable and effective entry-level video surveillance solution.
A cost-saving feature of Swann’s RedAlert Security Kit is it only records images or video when movement is detected. It also allows the user to record AVI video files or JPEG photo images. The standard 128MB SD memory card supplied with the kit can store up to 2,000 still images or 250 10-second video grabs. SD memory cards with higher storage capacities up to 2GB can be used to record and store a larger number of files.
It’s currently being sold through Dick Smith until the end of March and then it will be distributed through Ingram Micro, said Swann’s vice president global marketing, Jeremy Stewart.
Stewart told CRN the vendor is continually looking for ways to expand its distribution channel. The only recent changes in terms of the channel have been the addition of Ingram Micro as principal distributor and niche market distributors.
“The exclusive partnership with Dick Smith was a short-term launch arrangement for the RedAlert Security Kit. After the initial launch Swann will roll the product out to standard distribution channels,” said Stewart.
According to Swann, Ingram is one of Australia's largest broad-based distributors and has the potential to open a wide range of markets for Swann's video surveillance solutions, including SME's and business to business opportunities.
“Resellers can expect greater than 25 percent margins on the product. Do It Yourself (DIY) video surveillance is an emerging technology that is the fastest growing consumer electronics category. These products have yet to attain commodity status and we are currently limited in the number of suppliers available to the Australian retail market,” said Stewart.
Stewart claimed DIY video surveillance is easy to install, easy to use, affordable and ideal for small business and home users looking to record still photos or video grabs of motion.
