Sony Pictures is owned by one of Apple's biggest competitors and made last year's The Social Network, based on the life of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg – but that hasn't stopped the studio offering up a cool $3m to tell the story of Steve Jobs on film.
Hollywood entertainment site Deadline reports that Sony Pictures is set to buy the film rights to the upcoming authorised biography of the Apple co-founder, written by Time magazine's Walter Isaacson.
The book, entitled Steve Jobs, is set for a release date of October 24 and is made up of interviews with friends, colleagues and rivals as well as 40 interviews with Steve Jobs himself. We'll be first in line if it makes to celluloid in 2012 – but who could play the founder of Apple?
We're thinking they would need to cast someone relatively young, with CGI/makeup for the later years. Our nomination goes to The Last King of Scotland's James McAvoy: he has suitable acting chops and kind of looks like a 1980s-era Steve Jobs. If you squint a bit.
