Simble and Macquarie University unveil nanosensor technology partnership

Simble Solutions, an Australian software company focused on carbon management and energy/IoT solutions, has entered into research collaboration agreements with Macquarie University to jointly develop the novel ultraviolet and environmental nanosensor technology invented at Macquarie.

The collaboration builds on Simble's recent acquisition of Next Nano, which holds an exclusive licence from Macquarie to develop and commercialise the technology.

The collaboration will initially focus on development of the technology for e-skin applications for soft robotics, UV dosimetry, and health monitoring, with a pathway to fast tracking the development of the technology for different applications across multiple sectors.

It also provides a pathway for the development of products to integrate with Simble’s existing SimbleSense and CarbonView platforms.

Nanosensors serve as a low-power, compact data layer that aims to transform devices into always-on monitoring systems generating continuous, high-resolution data that enables real-time alerts, trend analytics and auditable reporting across multiple platforms.

The nanosensor technology developed at Macquarie is claimed by Simble to address key limitations of conventional sensing hardware through high sensitivity for environmental and optical sensing applications; sub-millimetre scale form factor enabling device integration; ultra-low power consumption suitable for battery-powered IoT deployments; and integration into existing devices, equipment, and wearable systems.

Under the collaboration between Simble and Macquarie, two PhD graduates will be engaged for a two-year period, under the supervision of the chief investigator at Macquarie, Professor Noushin Nasiri, to advance development of the technology.

Costs of the graduates will be jointly funded by Macquarie and Simble, and Simble will contribute an additional $288,000 towards project related costs over the 2-year term.

Any improvements to the technology arising from the collaboration will be owned by Macquarie University, with Simble retaining exclusive rights to commercialise such improvements under its existing licence agreement.

Last year, Simble received commitments to raise approximately $500,000 to enable the company to progress and grow its global energy and sustainability software solutions business.
