The launch is an upgrade of the company’s 7.5 Mobile Call Manager.
Version 7.5 provides organisations with remote access from mobile phones to all the productivity features linked to extensions at the office, ie Unified Communications (UC) on the road.
ShoreTel claims the 8.1 series has better functions, lower costs, enhanced devices and advanced security.
“There has been a lot of excitement from our resellers and customers," said Tony Warhurst, managing director S.E Asia ShoreTel.
"We are enhancing our existing features such as the Call Manager application which controls the phone system on your PC, it has video options so clients can access phone calls via video link.”
The new products which belong to the 8.1 ‘family’ include new switch models - ShoreGear E1k and ShoreGear 30BRI, which is a low-cost switch for small offices.
A VPN phone, Gigabit IP phone, which provides full Gig-E network connectivity for users who need high speeds at the desktop.
And a Mobile Call Manager to use with a BlackBerry or selected Nokia and Motorola handsets.
“We have made enhancements to our CTI (Computer Telephony Interface) interface known as a Call Manager, we have added video to Professional Call Manager so when you make a phone call the system detects a camera at both ends and it will ask you if you want to add video to the call," said Warhurst.
“We have added new Shoregear Switches to the family to help us support smaller sites and expanded a number of devices that now support Mobile Call Manager which expands our mobility offering beyond the BlackBerry devices,” he added.
