IP phone systems provider Shoretel has appointed Tasmanian-based Integrated Communication Solutions (ICS) as its systems integrator partner in the state.
Shoretel's decision to appoint a primary partner in the state was based on its strategy to have coverage across the country.
"I have a belief in quality partner coverage in all areas of a market," Vasili Triant, managing director of ShoreTel Asia Pacific, told CRN.
"I have good coverage around Australia including Northern Territory and Queensland, but in Tasmania we didn't really have a good proactive systems integrator.
"I could've let it go and done nothing however as a company we've always done really well in tertiary markets and Tasmania is a tertiary market.
"It's also a market that is underserved by competitors because everyone thinks the same thing: it's a small market," said Triant.
ICS was also appointed as an arm for Shoretel's Telstra partnership through its Business System program.
Verne Mackey, managing director of Hobart-based Integrated Communication Solutions, said that of all the major industry UC providers, ShoreTel was best suited to work with local telephony specialists because of its commitment to customer satisfaction.
NBN not a driver
Vasili said the NBN, which was being rolled out in Tasmania, was not "really" behind his decision to increase Shoretel's presence there.
"I don't see the NBN driving the adoption of telephony or unified communications.
"With our system we can be a fully meshed IP infrastructure across a quality WAN and NPS (Network Policy Server) network but when customers have bad connections like ADSL, we work just well.
"The difference is the communications path," he said.
