Services Australia prepares for SD-WAN transformation

Services Australia (SA) is seeking an IT partner to assist with replacing its existing Wide Area Network (WAN).

The agency aims to transform to a software-defined solution across WAN, LAN and WLAN and mobile satellite services.

In a request for tender published on 8 January, SA said it is seeking a partner to plan, design, build and implement the transformed network and provide managed network services post implementation.

The agency aims for the new software-defined network (SDN) to be designed, operated and managed as a single multi-tenancy network capable of supporting its logically separated networks.

SA's current IT infrastructure must be modified to connect directly to the new SDN environment, allowing for direct internet breakout and the removal of the reliance on routing through the agency's ACT data centre to its internet gateway.

The successful partner must upgrade or replace existing WAN routers and other networking devices to allow connecting to SD-WAN.

All on-premises network equipment must be audited to ensure it is SDN capable.

The request for tender will close on 14 March 2024.
