Servers Australia to shut Brisbane data centre, migrate to Equinix

Servers Australia has announced it will decommission its Brisbane data centre and migrate customers to Equinix’s IBX BR1 facility.

Servers Australia acquired its Brisbane tier-II data centre in 2016 when it bought Brisbane-based data centre operator Syncom alongside two other related companies, Dedicated Servers and Indigo.

Servers Australia also bought Brisbane-based hosting provider Oz Servers in 2017. Since then, the Syncom data centre has reached operational capacity.

Customers will be migrated from the Syncom data centre to Equinix’s BR1, which Servers Australia said will improve their customer experience, raise security, offer additional levels of compliance certification and allow them to leverage Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric.

Servers Australia said in a statement that the decision to decommission the data centre supported was made to focus on its core business rather than managing data centres.

“With the rapid growth rate of our business, it is imperative that we hand over the day-to-day data centre operations to the professional team at Equinix,” said Servers Australia chief executive Jared Hirst.

“The move also allows us to focus on our hybrid cloud business strategy amongst other innovative service offerings. We have some significant projects in the pipeline for the next 12 months, and this decision was necessary to continue offering exceptional services to our customers.”

The latest move to Equinix marks Servers Australia’s sixth location.
