Senior MSC Mobility figure defects to rival
Randall Cameron

New Zealand-based mobile services provider Mobile Mentor has lured over a sales exec from rival MSC Mobility to appoint as managing director for Australia.

Randall Cameron started in the new role this month after more than three years at Sydney-based competitor MSC Mobility, departing as national sales manager.

It is the first time Mobile Mentor has appointed an Australian managing director, he said. Andrew Button became the company's New Zealand managing director earlier this year. CEO Denis O'Shea oversees the company's operations in both countries.

Both Mobile Mentor and MSC Mobility are mobile managed service providers at the core, Cameron told CRN. Both are partners of Citrix and AirWatch.

One point of difference is Mobile Mentor’s partner status with enterprise application platform Blinkmobile. Mobile Mentor also has resellers in Tait Communications and Lexus Nexus.

Cameron said the focus would be on building the New Zealand company’s business in Australia. The company has had an Australian presence since 2007.

“Mobile mentor is quite strong in New Zealand even though it has a very small footprint in Australia. So the plan is to ramp up in Australia significantly,” he said.

He said the strategy would be to look beyond MDM now that many businesses have deployed mobile devices.

“MDM, I think that market’s somewhat saturated. We’re looking for business transformation with mobility through applications, security enhancement and through mobility consulting. The next wave of mobility.”
