It was announced on the 23 September that security vendor, McAfee, planned to acquire Secure Computing for US$465 million.
Krieger told CRN that he was inundated with calls from resellers after the announcement was made.
“They wanted to know what we were doing and what is happening. Our sole distributor itX doesn’t even carry the McAfee range of products.”
“I want to reassure them that nothing’s going to change. We are telling them everything is quite the same.”
Krieger claimed the acquisition was complimentary for both vendors.
“SC has been around since 1999, when it split from Honeywell,” he said.
“Since then a large majority of its dealings has been in the high-end of town (defence, spooks, government, etc.). McAfee has a complete network security portfolio, which gives us access to a broad range of security products.”
According to Krieger, the acquisition is still in the very early stages.
“We aren’t even looking at integration at this stage,” he said.
“It won’t be until the end of Q4 January when things start to happen. Then our CEO and the executive team will move across to McAfee.”
When that happens, Krieger believes SC will run parallel with McAfee and will have mutual investment transfers.
