Samsung unveils Galaxy Note 8.0

The long-rumoured Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 has officially been revealed by the mobile giant ahead of the start of Mobile World Congress this week.

The Galaxy Note 8.0 packs an 8in 1280x800 display which serves up a rather low 189ppi, but still bests the iPad Mini's pixel count, which Samsung has singled out as its main competitor.

Despite its tablet design, the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be able to make phone calls thanks to a micro SIM slot. It includes a newly-improved S Pen stylus, which offers staple tricks such as Air View return, but with the bonus of being able to use the capacitive buttons - no more finger-to-pen swapping.

The device offers a 1.6Ghz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, while 16/32GB of on-board memory can be beefed up with a 64GB micro SD. Its substantial 4600mAh battery is non-removable. It also includes rear-facing 5MP and front-facing 2MP cameras.

Samsung is yet to announce pricing or availability.
