Samsung netbooks promise 12-hour battery life

Samsung has launched a series of netbooks designed to offer longer battery life and better productivity for mobile workers through quicker booting times.

The four new models offer the longer battery life by using an energy efficient LED display, and optimised processing performance through the use of Intel's Atom processors, said the firm.

The N210 and N220 are able to run for 12 hours, according to Samsung, the NB30 for 11 hours and the N150 for 8.5 hours.

Daniel Hill, product manager for Samsung's notebook PC division, explained that long battery life is a must for netbook users.

"Many people see netbooks as companion devices and want them to be able to last all day. As such it's important they have long battery life, and Samsung has put a lot of effort into ensuring that the devices can last as long as possible," he said.

Both the N210 and N220 also feature an 'Instant On' function called HyperSpace that allows the device to turn on and immediately log on to the internet without waiting for Windows to boot.

Samsung marketing manager Kevan Jeffrey said that this allows those on the move to check anything hosted online far more efficiently than before.

"With the HyperSpace function, if you want to show someone an image or video or perhaps check your calendar you can do so instantly, rather than having to boot up the entire machine, which is ideal for those on the move," he said.
