Axis Communications has announced the upcoming launch of the AXIS D2124-VE Radar, adding a wide-area AI-powered radar device to its surveillance portfolio.

The AXIS D2124-VE Radar provides 360-degree coverage across an area of 40,000 square metres and detects humans up to 140 metres away. Axis said the device is designed to operate continuously in all weather and light conditions.

Axis said the radar is aimed at critical infrastructure, industrial and remote sites, and is designed to be mounted on poles, rooftops or mobile surveillance trailers.

The radar can be paired with the AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ Camera to enable automated visual verification without manual oversight. The combination uses AXIS Radar Autotracking for PTZ to deliver what the company called double-knock verification - requiring both the radar and video to confirm a detection before an alarm is triggered, which Axis said reduces unnecessary responses.

Built on Axis' ARTPEC-9 processor, the device features box-shaped detection and recognition zones to simplify coverage planning, and four integrated dynamic LED strips that can be configured to deter, warn or notify - or switched off for discreet monitoring.

Axis said the device draws an average of 14.8 W to cover its full detection area, making it suited to off-grid and mobile surveillance trailer installations. It supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), and PoE out can power the paired PTZ camera via an Axis high PoE 120 W midspan without an additional cable drop. Built-in radar image stabilisation is also included for accurate detection in windy environments.

"Traditionally, securing massive areas required complex, multi-sensor deployments that left critical gaps and burdened security teams with constant manual verification," said Niklas Lindman, global product manager for radar at Axis Communications.

"With AXIS D2124-VE Radar, we are introducing a solution that combines comprehensive 360-degree area coverage with AI-powered object classification to deliver exceptional detection accuracy. By installing this radar with our AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ Camera, organisations can achieve automated visual verification without manual oversight, reducing unnecessary responses and keeping perimeters truly secure."
