S Central expands its Government services business

The technology infrastructure services provider currently dervives 30 percent of its overall revenue from its government customers.

Due to the growing opportunities in the public sector market for specialist skills in areas such as virtualisation, data management and thin client technology, S Central has a new office in Canberra and has recruited a number of IT professionals to scope out more government service tenders.

In the past 18 months the service provider has been on an acquisition march and has acquired a number of IT service providers across Australia. S Central has also doubled its staff numbers to around 200 employees, said S Central managing director, Peter Mavridis.

“The company’s ACT office will be led by Brendan Major, who brings more than 15 years experience in the IT industry to the S Central group of companies. Major was General Development Manager at Canberra-based Open Systems Australia and has also held senior roles at ComputerCorp Ltd and Praxa,” he said.

According to Mavridis, Major has strong relationships with key government accounts in the ACT and with key vendors such as Citrix and VMware. “His in-depth knowledge of the Canberra market will enable S Central to drive significant growth in our public sector practice.”

He claimed government departments, whether local, state or federal, regarded virtualisation as a key technology to not only drive green initiatives but to also cut cost efficiencies and deliver improved disaster recovery capabilities.

The ACT office will be comprised of a team of Citrix and VMware specialists who will be able to offer public sector clients a full end-to-end solution from the desktop through to the datacentre, said Mavridis.

“This exciting addition to the S Central network will allow us to expand our government clients and is a very positive step forward in the implementation of our strategy to create a National IT Infrastructure Services business,” he said.

S Central has provided a number of IT projects to public sector organisations in the ACT and NSW. This includes; Federal Department of Finance and Treasury; NSW Department of Education and Training; NSW Attorney General’s office; and a number of education and health organisations.
