Australian software integrator Artis Group is celebrating after a rare reversal of the offshore IT outsourcing trend, clinching an 18-month contract extension outsourcing IT services to Thailand.
The Sydney-headquartered Microsoft specialist was picked for the role by Thai Admin Services (TAS), a subsidiary of the Thai Government Pension Fund (GPF), which is worth in excess of US$14 billion. The deal extends a five-year contract TAS already had with Artis.
Artis is holding up the win as an example of why Australian businesses should reconsider outsourcing to Asia. The Thai contract should “give pause to CIOs considering their support options based only on published ‘hourly rates’", said Artis chief executive Chris Greatrex.
Greatrex told CRN that Artis was originally recommended to the Thai organisation due to the Australian firm’s reputation. “Australia is a bit of leader in the super industry."
Artis originally deployed TAS’ key superannuation application five years ago and has been developing and supporting the software since. The support services are delivered remotely from Australia.
The 18-month extension came after TAS conducted a “worldwide” search for a supplier.
The organisation’s managing director, Boonleard Anprasertporn, said: “Artis came to us at the right time with the right business proposition and the right offer. They are very good at applications-based solutions and have an established reputation in Australian superannuation. There is no doubt of Artis' knowledge and expertise.”
Artis has offices in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane. In June this year, the company bought Microsoft Dynamics specialist Tapestry. Greatrex has previously stated the company aims to be a $50 million business by 2016.
