Queensland distributor Frontier Solutions and Strategies has signed up to distribute a range of noise-reducing headphones from Pro Tech Communications and is seeking resellers.
Paul Hughes, managing director at Frontier Solutions, said US-based Pro Tech Communications' NoiseBuster range offered cheaper ambient noise reduction and good sound quality than major hi-fi brands such as Bose, Sennheiser and Sony.
"If you think about a traditional stereo, that doesn't have any fans or noise. But today they're doing the same thing with a pair of headphones and a PC and you've got so much noise," he said.
Hughes said Frontier Solutions believed a growing market existed for headphones that used active noise reduction technology, especially among business travellers who might want to listen to their laptops or other audio devices on planes, users of VoIP or Skype services and gamers.
The noise cancelling technology meant users wouldn't have turn up the volume to hear what was being played.
The distributor was seeking resellers in Australia and New Zealand for the NoiseBuster range, which would shortly also include a unique set of earmuffs that used similar technology, he said.
Resellers that served the retail travel or digital home and home theatre markets would be ideal, Hughes said.
"Certainly, with all these current concerns about health and safety and things like that, there's an opportunity," he said.
Hughes said the products were doing well for IT resellers overseas. In the US, NoiseBuster headphones were used for multimedia PCs and office workers wanting to get rid of background noise from airconditioners, printers and PCs. The headphones could also be plugged into consumer devices such as MP3 players.
Computer resellers overseas were bundling the headphones with laptops and PCs. People were also using them with webcams, Hughes said.
Lowering background noise in the office, for example, could reduce stress levels for workers, he added.
