Mbits founder Eugene Nolan was not planning on evacuating from the NSW town of
Nolan told CRN his home and business were positioned high enough above ground to avoid damage.
ABC News this morning reported that more than 100 millimetres of rain fell in parts of the capital region overnight and the Queanbeyan River was expected to peak between 8 and 9 metres this morning - bracing for its biggest flooding in decades.
And, riverside residents were told to evacuate their homes today.
Nolan said he was minutes from the river, but the block down the road was being evacuated.
"We’re fine, we're five or ten minutes from where the water is and home is up in the hills.
"Waters have peaked at around 8.4 metres," he said.
Authorities weren’t expecting the rising waters "to get much higher”.
"There was talk it could hit 10 metres," he said.
He said this was the first time he had seen such an event in the area as the last time it occurred was in the early seventies.
The start-up solutions and managed services provider took out the No.1 spot in the inaugural CRN Fast50 list last year.
