European regulators have paused their investigation into Google's purchase of Motorola Mobility while they wait for more evidence.
Google moved to acquire Motorola Mobility earlier this year, but faces a grilling from regulators over how the deal might impact its position in the growing mobile search and advertising markets.
The $US12.5 billion ($A12.48 billion) buyout, which brings with it a raft of patents that Google could use in its intellectual property battles with Apple, needs clearance before it can go ahead.
Google needed to supply documents before the officials could make a ruling, which could delay any decision from January until later next year, officials said.
Regulators were seeking “certain documents that are essential for the evaluation of the transaction,” Amelia Torres, a spokeswoman for the commission, said, according to The New York Times. “Once we have all the documents, we’ll restart the clock.”
